Now, this doesn't mean that you need to talk about every single detail of everything you talk about, but just be aware that your listeners may need that extra description once in awhile to help them picture the stories, news, etc. Keeping your script concise gives you the room for improvisation and expansion while live broadcasting.

There are a number of incorrect ways. The golden rule is to follow the submission guidelines. After that, you want to be as conservative as possible. Correct formatting is very important to the director, cast and crew, because it makes their lives easier — formatting is not the place to be clever or original, because it will just upset the people who are going to decide whether they can be bothered to work with you again.

Your cast list should include the name of each character left aligned in ALL CAPS, each with a line of their own, followed by a short lower-case description, with a full line space between each character.
Keep it brief and as broad as possible — only essential details here. Remember that the less unessential details with which you encumber your character, the wider the range of actors we can choose from when casting, which inevitably means the better the quality of actors we can find. But courier is classic for a reason and gives you nice consistently measured paragraphs.
Your left margin should be set at 1. Remember that it is often very difficult for an audience to identify something by sound alone, so you almost always need your dialogue to carry the action and your soundscape to support.
There are several standard directions that can be added at the beginning of a paragraph of dialogue, which indicate to the post production scene that they should create a sound for that voice. These directions are written in capitals and placed in brackets at the beginning of the line, and are as follows:.

Traditional stage productions have days and weeks of rehearsal, they use "table reads" and let the actors interpret the text--with instructions from the director. In radio drama, there's usually no time to freely interpret the text, so I place my directorial "notes" right into the text.
Some producers and actors may blanch at such heavy handed instruction, but I find it has plenty of merit.
I also write for the ear--so that both the actor and the audience can easily understand the dialogue--something very necessary in the "blind" medium of radio drama. Its conventions are well suited to efficient radio drama rehearsal and production. Other formats will work, but I've found this one to be quick and easy. The spacing isn't quite right, but it gives you a general idea. Also, the template is in MS Word 6. You may need to load it once then save it in your later Word format. That's fine, it doesn't need to stay as an old-style Word file. First read through this page, then download the template and open it in your version of MS Word. A template is a special kind of source document that you load into MS Word. It contains all the "styles" that allow you to instantly format the various types of cues employed in radio.
You could do it yourself with tabs and underlines and capitalization, but the template styles allow you to just type away and get the correct formatting and margins you need.
